How to re-download the blockchain
« on: June 11, 2019, 12:27:51 am »

I've been on a fork for the past 2 weeks and I can't seem to get off it.  I've reloaded the client (version 2.2.3) several times and deleted everything I can think of and nothing works.  The client just tells me it is downloading the blockchain but it's been doing that for days and days.  "17010 blocks left" it says and that number only goes up.   I am currently connected to 8 peers and 6 of them have up to date clients.    At this point I'd be fine with redownloading the entire blockchain if I could find a way to delete it off my computer.  I'm running on a Mac.  Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Neofelis

To delete and redownload the blockchain file:

1- stop the service (righ click on the Ardor icon in the notification area > shutdown

2- Locate the nxt_db folder and delete its content (In a Mac it should be at ~/.ardor) > https://desk.zoho.eu/portal/jelurida/kb/articles/user-directories-per-product-and-platform

3- At this point, either you start the blockchain download from scratch by just running the client (and probably having to wait some hours) or you follow the instruction shown here to download a copy of the blockchain file to speed up the process before running the client https://desk.zoho.eu/portal/jelurida/kb/articles/how-to-download-a-copy-of-the-blockchain

Thanks for the help.  I completely deleted the blockchain and wiped everything crypto from my computer (restarted it)  and then reloaded a new installer from Jelurida.  The client starts up and says its downloading the blockchain but hours pass and there aren't any blocks downloaded.  I've restarted the computer and done every trick I could thing of to no avail.

Any additional advice?

In addition to reinstalling the wallet, have you tried this? https://desk.zoho.eu/portal/jelurida/kb/articles/how-to-download-a-copy-of-the-blockchain

If after trying the above trick (i.e. manually downloading the blockchain file), it still doesn't work, I'd check:
A- That my Firewall/router/anti-virus isn't blocking something
B- That I have installed the right version of Java (the current Ardor wallet requires Java 8, Java 11 or Java 12)
C- If all the above don't work, I'd stop the Ardor wallet and create a nxt.properties file -inside the CONF folder in your Ardor's folder installation (or would add the following lines at the end of that file, if the file already exists) with the information from an OpenAPI node taken from Ardor.PeerExplorer. The nxt.properties file should contain something like the following (just replace 12.34.56.78 with the IP of the node you've obtained from PeerExplorer):
Code: [Select]
nxt.wellKnownPeers=12.34.56.78
nxt.forceAPIProxyServerURL=http://12.34.56.78:27876

OK, so I downloaded the blockchain from Jelurida and it seems to be working.  I don't know why it wouldn't download on its own (safer) but I should't have to be able to code in Java to fix it.  The software client just isn't clean enough yet for the average user to problem-solve things like this.  I know enough about computers to solve most problems but this one perplexed me.  If I was an average person, I would have given up on crypto weeks ago.

Thanks Jose for all your help.
